Plenty of parking at the inn for trucks and trailers. Unload once, leave the truck for the week, and roll out of the lot each morning.
The village roads are designated OHV routes (spurs 52 and 59), and Trail 5 starts a mile north of the highway at Aspen Mirror Lake. Cross SR-14 at a right angle unless your machine is street legal.

Ride plans
Every ride starts and ends in our parking lot, and every one crosses SR-14 only at right angles: no highway riding needed. Times assume about 10 mph on the trail plus stops. Each ride page has the turn-by-turn, an elevation profile, and a GPX file.

Utah keeps the rules short, and the rangers enforce them. Run this list before you leave the lot.
Every operator carries the Utah OHV Education certificate, adults and kids alike, rentals included. The adult course is free, online, and takes 15 to 30 minutes.
Trailering your own machine in from out of state? It needs the $35 Utah non-resident OHV permit, bought online, good for 12 months. Rented Utah machines are covered.
Required for everyone under 18 statewide, and Kane County extends the rule to all OHV riders on county roads. Wear one regardless.
An approved spark arrestor is required, the noise limit is 96 dB, and lights are required from sunset to sunrise.
Not street legal? You may only cross the highway: stop, yield, and cross at a right angle. Street-legal machines may ride SR-14 at up to 50 mph or the posted limit.
Cross-country motorized travel is prohibited forest-wide. The Cedar City Ranger District MVUM is the legal map; leave gates the way you found them.
Snowmelt, mud orders, fire restrictions, and afternoon storms decide the day up here more than the calendar does. The live tiles pull current data; the status lines are checked by hand.

Four shops work out of the village, all on the same road as the inn. Bring your Utah OHV Education certificate, book ahead for summer weekends and holidays, and call to confirm what is on the lot.

Winter
When the plateau goes white, the Markagunt loops become the Cedar Mountain Snowmobile Complex: nearly 100 groomed miles on eight named trails, groomed by Dixie National Forest with the Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation. The Duck Creek Trail leaves the village for Midway Valley to the north and Strawberry Point to the south, and the Strawberry Point Trail is called the definitive snowmobile trip of the season.
Adults do not need the education card on a snowmobile, under-18s do, and sleds may use roads that are officially closed for winter. Tracked side-by-sides are a village tool: use them on plowed and unplowed streets and to reach cabins, and leave the groomed trails to the sleds.
Our photos, not stock. The Strawberry Point spur is the ride most guests take first: five miles of forest road off Trail 5 that ends on the Virgin River Rim at roughly 9,000 feet, with the cliffs dropping away below and Zion on the horizon. There are no railings at the point, so keep kids and dogs close.
Evening rides around Aspen Mirror Lake and Duck Creek Pond are a guest favorite once the day cools off. Lights are required after sunset, and the lake road is the quietest hour of the day on the whole system.

More than 300 miles of designated routes make up the Markagunt OHV System on Dixie National Forest; the Forest Service’s own tally is 408 miles. The system is organized as seven numbered loops with spurs, and Duck Creek Village sits directly on it. Cross-country travel is prohibited, so the mileage is the network of designated roads and trails on the current MVUM.

Keep to 15 mph on village roads, use residential streets as transit only, and cross SR-14 at a right angle unless your machine is street legal. There is plenty of parking at the inn for trucks and trailers.
Not a permit, but every operator needs the Utah OHV Education certificate, including rental customers. Adults take a free online course that runs 15 to 30 minutes and is good for life; riders under 18 need the youth certificate. The shop must see the certificate before renting. Machines rented in Utah carry their own registration, so the $35 non-resident permit only applies if you trailer your own out-of-state machine in.
Only if the machine is street legal. Non-street-legal OHVs may only cross the highway: stop, yield, and cross at a right angle. Street-legal OHVs may ride SR-14 at up to 50 mph or the posted limit under Utah Code 41-6a-1509, since Kane and Iron are not first-class counties. Every one of our eight rides crosses SR-14 at least once, but none needs any highway riding.
Forest Service order 0407-22-15 sets a 72-inch, 2,500-pound limit on MVUM-designated trails through 2027, and some trails are limited to 50 inches. About two miles of Trail 1 is OHV-only with a 62-inch limit. The Cedar City Ranger District MVUM is the legal document; the width symbols on the printable map are for orientation.
Seasonal roads on the MVUM are open May 1 to November 30, but snowmelt sets the real date. Spring mud orders can keep Trails 1 and 5 closed while wet into late May or June; the 2026 order was rescinded June 1. Dry riding typically runs June through October. Monsoon storms build in the early afternoon from July to September, and the first snow usually reaches the high loops in mid-October.
No. The only fuel is in the village at Loose Wheels / Phillips 66, 835 E Movie Ranch Road, open daily 9 to 6 with gas and diesel. Fill up before you leave, and turn around at half a tank on the long loops: a loaded six-seat machine burns through a tank faster than its range figure suggests.
Kids ride along as passengers in a side-by-side, and the evening loop around Aspen Mirror Lake and Duck Creek Pond is a family favorite. Anyone who drives needs the Utah OHV Education certificate; under 18 that means the youth certificate and a helmet. Rental shops set their own minimum driver ages, so ask when you book. Lights are required after sunset.
