Opening weekend (Nov 6, 2026), Christmas week to Jan 4, MLK weekend, Presidents Day week
We run two of the places on this page, so we will say up front where the bias is. If the trip is about skiing, the best bed we know of is the two-bedroom condo we co-host across the road from the Giant Steps base, because you can walk to the lift and sleep ten minutes after the last run. If the trip is about a mountain week with one or two Brian Head days in it, our inn in Duck Creek Village is the better base and the cheaper one. Everything else below is for the people those two do not fit.
The condo across the street from Giant Steps
Suzie’s ground-floor condo sits in the complex directly across Highway 143 from the Giant Steps base: about 630 ft to the lodge door, the rental counter and the tubing hill, close enough to walk in ski boots. Two bedrooms (a king and a queen), one updated bathroom, a real wood-burning fireplace with the firewood stacked outside, a full kitchen, and the complex’s indoor hot tub and dry sauna for the evening. It sleeps 4, and dogs are welcome.
It books on Suzie’s own direct site rather than through our booking engine, which is why you will not find it on our rooms page. We co-host it because our guests kept asking for a bed at the lift for the one night a week they did not want to drive, and we would rather point them at a place we know than at a search result.
On the public review platforms it carried a 4.88 average across 86 reviews as of October 2026, 80 of them five stars. Check-in is 3:00 PM, check-out 10:00 AM.
“They had everything we needed and were literally across the street. We could walk to the lifts and the local restaurants and general store. It’s perfect for a family of four or two couples.”
The building after a storm. The condo is on the main floor.
The living room window faces the mountain.
The wood-burning fireplace. Firewood is stacked outside.
The community hot tub, shared with the complex.
Duck Creek Village Inn, for the whole-mountain trip
An hour and a quarter away in winter by Mammoth Creek Road when that road is passable, and 1 hr 35 min by the guaranteed Cedar City loop when it is not, which is the honest range and the reason this is not the ski-every-day answer. What it is instead: a quieter, less expensive base with the Cedar Mountain snowmobile trails out the door, Deer Hollow’s groomed ski track four miles up the road, Cedar Breaks on snowshoes fifteen minutes west, and restaurants you can walk to. In summer the resort is 41 minutes away over the Cedar Breaks rim, which changes the calculation completely.
If you want one night at the lift and the rest of the week at the inn, that is exactly the combination the condo exists for. Book the ski night there and the rest with us.

Staying in Brian Head town
Brian Head is a town of about 150 permanent residents and several hundred condos, cabins and a couple of larger hotel-style properties at the two base areas, with vacation-rental listings filling most of the rest. The lodging clusters around Giant Steps (the main lodge, rentals, tubing, night skiing, the general store and pizza) and around Navajo (the beginner side, about half a mile north). Anything described as ski-in is worth a map check: a few buildings genuinely sit at a base, most are a short walk or a shuttle ride, and the town has run a free winter shuttle between the base areas in past seasons.
Town prices track the resort calendar. Holiday blocks (Christmas week through January 4, Martin Luther King weekend, Presidents Day week) sell out early and cost the most; midweek in January and March is the quiet, cheap end. The town has a general store, a handful of restaurants and no supermarket, so Cedar City is the grocery stop on the way up.
Parowan and Cedar City, for the budget
Parowan, 12.6 miles and 26 minutes below the resort at the bottom of the canyon, has small motels, a grocery, gas and the cheapest beds within reach of the lifts. The cost is the canyon itself every morning: 3,900 feet of climbing on a Class II traction-law road that gets plowed in daylight hours. On a storm morning you will be waiting for the plow, not sleeping in.
Cedar City, 31.3 miles and 48 minutes away, has every chain hotel, the regional airport, big groceries, chain rental and sporting-goods stores, and a university town’s worth of restaurants. It is the right base for a one-day ski stop on a longer Utah trip, and the wrong one for a ski week.
Nov 6Opening weekend. Earliest in Utah, limited terrain, a loyal crowd. Town is lively; the condo and the inn are both easy to get.
Dec 20 to Jan 4Christmas block. The hardest two weeks of the year to find a bed in town. Night skiing and tubing run daily. Book the condo months out.
JanQuiet and cold. Midweek is the cheapest the town gets; the pack usually reaches 24 inches around December 18 and keeps building.
Jan 17 to 19MLK weekend. A three-day spike. Holiday hours at the resort.
Feb 14 to 22Presidents Day week. The busiest week after Christmas, with daily night skiing and tubing. The deepest reliable snow of the season.
MarThe best skiing. Median peak depth around March 18 and the sun is back. Town empties on weekdays; the inn is a bargain.
AprSpring skiing. The resort runs until the snow is gone, typically into mid April. Half the town is shuttered; the lift is yours.

We co-host the condo with its owner and we own Duck Creek Village Inn, so this page recommends places we have a stake in and says so. Condo facts come from the current listing (checked October 2026); the review figure is the public platform average on that date and is shown as dated text only. Drive times are OSRM routes at posted speeds, traced October 2026. We have not reviewed or inspected the other properties in town and do not rate them.
A few buildings sit right at the Giant Steps and Navajo base areas; most lodging in town is a short walk or a shuttle ride from a lift, whatever the listing says. The condo we co-host is about 630 feet from the Giant Steps lodge door across Highway 143, which is a two-minute walk in ski boots rather than a ski-in, and we describe it that way.
Where should I stay for Brian Head: in town, Duck Creek or Cedar City?
In town if you plan to ski every day; at Duck Creek Village Inn if Brian Head is one day of a mountain week and you want snowmobiling, Cedar Breaks and quiet evenings; in Cedar City only if you are passing through. The winter drive from Duck Creek is an hour and a quarter by Mammoth Creek Road when it is passable and 1 hr 35 min by Cedar City when it is not, so it is a day, not an afternoon.
Are there pet-friendly places to stay in Brian Head?
Yes. The condo we co-host across from Giant Steps takes dogs, and so do our cabins in Duck Creek Village. Most hotel-style properties at the resort do not, so filter for it before you fall in love with a listing.
How far is Brian Head lodging from the lifts?
Town is small: everything is within about two miles of a base area, and the two base areas are about half a mile apart. The useful question is whether you can walk to a lift in boots, which the condo can and most rentals cannot.
How far is Brian Head from Cedar City, St. George and Las Vegas?
Cedar City 31.3 miles (48 min), St. George 85 miles (about 1 hr 40), Las Vegas 201 miles (about 3 hr 45), all by I-15 to Parowan and Highway 143 up the canyon. The full table with routes is on our Brian Head drive page.
When do I need to book?
Christmas week through January 4 and Presidents Day week sell out first, then MLK weekend and opening weekend. For those dates book the condo or the inn as soon as your dates are firm. Midweek in January and March you can usually book a week ahead.
Does the condo book through Duck Creek Village Inn?
No. It books on Suzie’s direct site, brianhead.directstays.com, and the condo page on this site links straight to it. Rooms and cabins at the inn book here as usual.
