Aspen Mirror Lake is one of the easiest and most rewarding outings from Duck Creek Village. A five-minute drive and a flat half-mile walk through the forest bring you to a 15-acre alpine lake at 8,400 feet, surrounded by aspen and pine. On calm mornings the water reflects the trees and sky so clearly it looks like a painting — and in fall, the aspen color turns the whole scene gold, orange, and red. It's also a solid family fishing spot: stocked with rainbow, brown, brook, and tiger trout, with shore fishing only (no boats or float tubes). Wildlife is common — deer, marmots, chipmunks, and frogs are regulars along the shoreline.

Highlights

  • Mirror-still reflections on calm mornings — one of the most photographed spots near Duck Creek
  • Easy half-mile walk suitable for families and all fitness levels
  • Shore fishing for four species of stocked trout (Utah license required)
  • Wildlife viewing along the trail and at the water's edge
  • Connecting trail leads to Duck Lake, about one mile farther
  • Fall aspen color peaks September through early October

Tips

Arrive early for the best reflections and wildlife activity. The trail has lava rocks, so wear sturdy shoes and skip the stroller. For fishing, PowerBait, worms, and small spinners work well; fly anglers should try ant, midge, or leech patterns. Pair with Duck Creek Pond or a village meal for a relaxed half day close to the inn.

When to go

Best from June through November. Fall color season draws visitors from across the region. Snow closes access in winter and early spring.
