Highway 14 driving basics

Duck Creek Village is typically reached by Highway 14 from Cedar City. It is a beautiful approach, but it is still a mountain road: winter weather, shoulder-season storms, and fast temperature swings can change driving conditions quickly.

Best times to recheck the drive

  • Before leaving Cedar City or lower elevation
  • Before any night arrival back to Duck Creek
  • Before park days that depend on Highway 14 or US-89 connections
  • After any storm cell, snow burst, or sudden temperature drop

What changes the road most

Snow and ice matter in winter, but shoulder-season visibility, afternoon storms, and cold nighttime temperatures can be just as important. If the cameras look more uncertain than the valley forecast suggests, trust what the mountain is showing you.

Winter driving reminders

  • Check UDOT and weather before leaving
  • Carry chains and know how to use them
  • Allow extra daylight for the climb
  • Pack water, a charger, warm layers, and a basic emergency kit
