Zion National Park will reopen visitor access on the Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026. A portion of the highway was closed Sept. 30, 2026, after a large rock formation collapsed, damaging the roadway and blocking travel.
The Zion-Mt. Carmel Tunnel will experience temporary nighttime closures for a Utah Department of Transportation construction project. Closures will take place in late September of 2026.
While visiting Zion National Park from July through September can bring adventure, it may also include rapidly changing weather. Clear morning skies can quickly build into intense afternoon thunderstorms — transforming the landscape and creating serious hazards. The National Park Service urges visitors to stay informed and be ready for sudden weather changes, including the potential for flash floods.
Check the Zion–Mount Carmel Highway before entering from the east. Rockfall, weather and roadwork can interrupt the through-route. Read the date and time on UDOT's road and parking posts; they are updates, not a live count of available spaces. If parking inside the park is full, check NPS guidance for Springdale parking and the shuttle.
Snow on Cedar Mountain does not tell you what is happening in Zion Canyon. Check Highway 14 for the mountain drive, then the park forecast and conditions for the part of Zion you will visit. This page does not measure snow depth or show live trail surfaces.
Read the current trail notices before choosing a hike. For the Narrows, check river flow, flood potential and water advisories. A park entrance being open does not establish that a river hike is suitable that day.
The NPS webcam shows the Temples and Towers of the Virgin from park headquarters. It is a scenic view, not an entrance-queue, parking-lot or Canyon Junction Bridge camera. Check road and parking updates separately.
Check the specific facility you need before going. NPS lists separate hours for the Zion Canyon information desk, park store and wilderness desk, as well as the Kolob Canyons facilities. Visitor-center opening hours do not establish wilderness-desk availability.

The live sections use the National Park Service API. Alerts can be cached, and the displayed retrieval time is not the time each condition changed. Missing or empty data does not confirm access. Follow the official NPS and UDOT links for updates before departure.
Zion normally allows access 24 hours a day, year-round, but temporary road, trail or area closures can affect your visit. Read the current NPS notices and UDOT road updates. An empty alert feed is not an all-clear for your route.
During shuttle service, most private vehicles cannot use Zion Canyon Scenic Drive beyond Canyon Junction. Drive to the visitor center and take the park shuttle, or follow the park's guidance for walking and cycling. The east–west Zion–Mount Carmel Highway is a separate road with its own restrictions and closures.
Only if your visit stays on the east side, such as Checkerboard Mesa or Canyon Overlook. To reach Zion Canyon trailheads during shuttle season, continue toward the Zion Canyon Visitor Center and plan for parking and the shuttle. If its lot is full, check the Springdale parking and shuttle options.
This alert feed cannot establish current snow cover. Check the park's weather and conditions pages for your destination. High elevations and shaded trails can have different conditions from the canyon floor, and Highway 14 near Duck Creek needs a separate road check.
Compare rooms and cabins for a trip that includes Zion, Bryce Canyon and time around the village.
