La mayoría entra a Zion por el sur, a través de Springdale. Eso significa tráfico, aparcar con estrés y una cola de shuttle que puede comerse la mañana.
Si te alojas en Duck Creek Village Inn, entras por el otro lado, a través de la Zion-Mt Carmel Highway, y la diferencia es enorme.
El trayecto desde Duck Creek
La ruta entra por Highway 14, cruza hacia US-89 y luego sube por la Zion-Mt Carmel Highway hasta el túnel. Es un recorrido escénico y bastante directo, con menos tráfico que la entrada sur.
Zion-Mt Carmel Tunnel
El túnel es una de las partes más memorables del trayecto. La carretera cambia de nivel y la vista se abre de pronto hacia Zion Canyon. Importante desde el 7 de junio de 2026: los vehículos que superan los límites del NPS (más de 35'9" de largo, 7'10" de ancho u 11'4" de alto) están prohibidos en toda la Zion-Mt Carmel Highway, y la antigua opción de escolta de pago ya no existe; las autocaravanas grandes deben rodear el parque por la US-89 y la Highway 59.
Canyon Overlook Trail
Justo al este del túnel está Canyon Overlook Trail, una caminata corta con una de las mejores vistas del parque. Es una gran forma de empezar o cerrar el día.
Checkerboard Mesa y el lado este
El lado este de Zion tiene un ritmo más calmado, formaciones de arenisca muy llamativas y acceso fácil a otros puntos escénicos antes de bajar al cañón principal.
Entrada este frente a Springdale
La entrada este te ahorra bastante estrés si vienes desde Duck Creek. Springdale es más concurrido, depende del shuttle y puede requerir más tiempo de aparcamiento. La entrada este te deja conducir directamente hacia el paisaje.
How the day flows
Una mañana por la entrada este funciona muy bien con Canyon Overlook y luego una transición al cañón principal si quieres seguir explorando. Si el día es corto, esa sola combinación ya vale mucho la pena.

Which entrance to Zion is closest to Duck Creek Village?
The east entrance on the Zion-Mount Carmel Highway (UT-9) is the closest - about an hour from Duck Creek Village Inn via UT-14 and US-89, reaching the park 13 miles west of Mt. Carmel Junction. The south entrance at Springdale takes roughly half an hour longer and carries far more traffic.
Can I drive my RV through the Zion east entrance?
Only if it fits. Since June 7, 2026, vehicles over 35'9" long, 7'10" wide (mirrors included), or 11'4" tall are prohibited from the entire Zion-Mount Carmel Highway, and the old paid-escort option no longer exists. Oversized rigs reach Springdale and Zion Canyon by detouring around the park via US-89 and Highway 59.
Do I need a reservation to enter Zion in 2026?
No. Zion has no park-entry reservation or timed-entry system in 2026 - you simply pay the entrance fee at the booth. The exception is Angels Landing, which requires a permit through a seasonal or day-before lottery on recreation.gov.
Can I bike or walk through the Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel?
No. Bicycles and pedestrians are prohibited in the tunnel at all times, and rangers cannot shuttle cyclists or their bikes through. If you are touring by bike, arrange a ride through the tunnel in a private vehicle before committing to the route.
Is there a shuttle from the east entrance?
No - park shuttles run only in Zion Canyon and Springdale, so you drive yourself to everything on the east side. To ride the canyon shuttle, continue through the tunnel to the Zion Canyon Visitor Center and board there; during shuttle season (March 7, 2026 - January 2, 2027) private cars are not allowed on the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive.
How long is the Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel?
The tunnel is 1.1 miles long, completed in 1930, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Standard cars, SUVs, and pickups drive straight through with no fee beyond park admission.
