Duck Creek to Zion Canyon
About 90 minutes via UT-14 and UT-9
Zion from Las Vegas
Zion's main canyon is 90 minutes from Duck Creek. That's fine for a mixed trip and clumsy for a Zion sprint.
The short version
Straight talk: if Zion is your only reason for leaving Vegas, stay in Springdale. It's closer to the canyon, the shuttle picks you up in town, and your first hike starts earlier. Duck Creek is 90 minutes from the Zion Canyon entrance. That distance matters when parking fills by 9 AM and the shuttle line grows by the minute. But if Zion is one part of a bigger Southern Utah weekend, Duck Creek gives you a cooler base, a quieter night, and easy access to Bryce, Cedar Breaks, and Navajo Lake on the other days.

Zion on Tuesday, Bryce on Thursday, Cedar Breaks in between. One base, cooler nights, and no hotel changes. That's the Duck Creek play for Zion.
Springdale puts you at the shuttle stop. Duck Creek puts you 90 minutes away. For a dedicated Zion weekend, that math doesn't work.
Zion Canyon is shuttle-access only in season. The earlier you're in line, the better. An extra 90 minutes on the front end costs you the best part of the morning.
Cooler air, darker sky, pine forest. If you're doing a multi-day trip and Zion is one piece, you sleep better here than in a Springdale hotel.
Decide first: is this a Zion trip or a Southern Utah trip? The answer picks your base.
Seriously. Springdale has shuttle access, canyon-side lodging, and restaurants within walking distance of the park. Don't force Duck Creek into a Zion-only plan.
Leave Duck Creek by 6:30 AM. The 90-minute drive means you're at the canyon by 8. Parking fills fast and the shuttle line grows all morning.
If the Zion lots are full, park in Springdale and catch the town shuttle. Don't circle the canyon lots hoping for a spot.
Bryce (1 hour), Cedar Breaks (15 min), Navajo Lake (10 min). The non-Zion days are where Duck Creek shines.
Same cabin, different weekend. These guides cover other reasons to drive north from Las Vegas.
One mountain base for both parks. Bryce is an hour east, Zion 90 minutes south. Three nights minimum.

Yes. Leave early, expect 90 minutes each way. It works for a full park day but you'll feel the miles if you do it two days in a row.
Springdale for a Zion-focused trip. Duck Creek if Zion is one day in a multi-stop Southern Utah weekend.
Assuming you can roll into Zion Canyon at 10 AM and park. Lots fill early in summer. Plan for an early arrival or use the Springdale shuttle.
When you're also doing Bryce, Cedar Breaks, or a couple of mountain days. The cooler overnight and the central location justify the extra drive to Zion.
