Dance Hall Rock is a large sandstone amphitheater in Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument, about 42 miles down the Hole-in-the-Rock Road from Escalante. In 1879–80, Mormon pioneers spent two months here while building a road to the Colorado River; they used the natural amphitheater for dances and gatherings because of its good acoustics. The site is now a historic stop for visitors exploring the Hole-in-the-Rock Road. It is not a cave in the strict sense but a dramatic overhang and gathering place often referred to in pioneer history as a "dance hall" cave.
