Expect a warm, knotty-pine dining room straight out of a relative's mountain cabin, which is exactly the feel the family is going for, with home-style plates crossing the counter all day, a soup-and-salad bar along the way, and takeout or delivery when you would rather eat back at your own place.
Susan Edwards and her daughter Danelle French opened Aunt Sue's Chalet on September 28, 2008, with a favorite nephew supplying the name. It was a second act for a restaurant family: the Edwards had run the Chalet Cafe in Mesquite, Nevada for roughly two decades, and their Duck Creek roots reach back to property they bought in 1974 and a cabin they finished by 1980. Today you will often find four generations of the Edwards family working the dining room together.
What to order
- Aunt Sue's biscuits and gravy. Order a small or large plate on its own, or go for the Stuffed Biscuit: sausage and eggs smothered in gravy with hash browns.
- A homemade cinnamon roll, 'big, plump, and delicious' by the menu's own billing.
- Homemade pie by the slice or à la mode. Flavors run from apple, cherry, and pumpkin to Mountain Berry, which packs blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, apples, and rhubarb into one crust.
- The Duck Burger, a half-pound burger the menu is careful to note is 'not duck!'
- Country fried steak, with eggs off the all-day breakfast, or as a full dinner with a trip to the salad bar.

- Breakfast and dinner are both served all day, so steak and eggs and a fried chicken dinner can share the same table at 4 PM.
- Whole homemade pies come in about ten flavors to take back to the cabin, and the banana, chocolate, and coconut cream pies are pre-order only, so call ahead if you want one.
