Why this works

Why Stay Up Here Instead of Commuting

  1. Skip the daily drive

From Las Vegas the drive is about 202 miles, roughly three and a half hours, north on I-15 through Mesquite, St. George, and Cedar City, then east on Highway 14. Mesquite is about 120 miles, roughly 2 hours 20 minutes. Mesquite is on Pacific time and Utah is an hour ahead.

  2. Winter on Highway 14

From the I-15 side, Highway 14 climbs Cedar Canyon to a 9,905 ft summit before it drops to the village, and that climb is the part to plan around in snow. The road is plowed all winter, but storms can bring traction requirements or temporary closures. Staying in the village keeps your crew off that climb twice a day.

  3. A real front desk

We're one of the only places in Duck Creek Village with a staffed front desk. If the crew needs something, ask at the desk. We keep a small selection of drinks and snacks there, and we're glad to suggest where to eat, where to grab supplies, and how the roads look.
