Sunset in Duck Creek Village comes at 6:43 pm on October 23, 2026, and slides to 6:33 pm by Halloween. On Sunday, November 1, the clocks fall back and sunset jumps to 5:32 pm. It bottoms out at 5:12 pm from December 2 to 10. The latest sunset of the year, 8:56 pm, runs from June 23 to July 3. Those are the U.S. Naval Observatory times for the village, and on the valley floor the sun leaves you sooner.

| November 1, after the clock change | Sunrise 6:56 am, sunset 5:32 pm |
| Earliest sunset | 5:12 pm, December 2 to 10 |

| Shortest day | 9 hours 34 minutes, late December |
| Longest day | 14 hours 46 minutes, late June |
The village sits in Kane County on Mountain time, the same clock as Cedar City, Bryce Canyon and Zion. Arizona stays on standard time all year, so from November 1 to March 13 a Phoenix phone and a Duck Creek phone agree. From March 14 the village runs an hour ahead of Phoenix again. Las Vegas sits on Pacific time and stays an hour behind the village all year.
Sunrise and sunset by month
Day length here swings by more than five hours across the year. The clock change makes the swing feel bigger than it is. On Saturday, March 13, 2027, the sun sets at 6:36 pm, and on Sunday, March 14, it sets at 7:37 pm.
| Cold months (the 15th) | Sunrise and sunset |
|---|---|
| November | 7:11 am and 5:20 pm |
| December | 7:38 am and 5:14 pm |
| January | 7:44 am and 5:36 pm |
| February | 7:20 am and 6:10 pm |
| March (after the change) | 7:42 am and 7:38 pm |
| April | 6:56 am and 8:06 pm |
Two quirks in the winter numbers catch people. The earliest sunset comes from December 2 to 10, two weeks or more before the solstice. And the latest sunrise under standard time, 7:46 am, waits until January 9, well after the shortest day has passed. Afternoons start to lengthen before mornings do. The single latest sunrise in the next twelve months falls on Saturday, October 31, at 7:55 am, on the last morning of daylight saving time.

| Warm months (the 15th) | Sunrise and sunset |
|---|---|
| May | 6:22 am and 8:33 pm |
| June | 6:09 am and 8:53 pm |
| Midsummer (July 15) | 6:22 am and 8:52 pm |
| August | 6:47 am and 8:23 pm |
| September | 7:13 am and 7:39 pm |
| October | 7:39 am and 6:54 pm |
Twilight adds usable light at both ends. Civil twilight, the stretch when the sun sits less than six degrees below the horizon, runs about 26 minutes past sunset in late October and close to half an hour in June and December. On October 23 it ends at 7:09 pm. After that you need a headlamp on any trail.
The ridges take the sun first
Every published sunset time, the Naval Observatory’s included, assumes a level, open horizon. Duck Creek Village sits in a forested valley at about 8,400 feet, with ground rising on both sides. We sampled USGS elevation data outward from the inn along the exact compass line the sun follows at each sunrise and sunset, then worked out when the sun drops behind that ground. Treat the result as bare earth. Pines can take the light sooner.
| At the inn, bare ground | Official vs behind the ridge |
|---|---|
| Oct 23 sunset | 6:43 pm vs about 6:25 pm |
| Dec 21 sunset | 5:17 pm vs about 4:55 pm |
| Jun 21 sunset | 8:56 pm vs about 8:18 pm |
| Oct 23 sunrise | 7:47 am vs about 8:33 am |
| Dec 21 sunrise | 7:42 am vs about 8:54 am |
The morning gap is the big one. On the winter solstice the low sun has to climb over the rise east of the inn, and direct light reaches the building more than an hour after official sunrise. The numbers move with where you stand: a second village point half a mile away came out steeper still. Both points we tested lose the sun well before the clock time.
The Navajo Lake Overlook, the closer pullout on the same road, faces the lake to the south. A rise just west of it blocks the low sun, so the sun leaves it 35 to 43 minutes ahead of the official time in our samples. Use it for the lake view, and go on to the Zion Overlook for the sunset itself.
Planning your days around the light
The clock change on November 1 hits drive plans hardest. A late October arrival at 6:30 pm still has daylight on Highway 14. The same arrival on November 2 lands an hour after sunset, in the dark, on a mountain road. Check our November weather post for what that road does once the first storms arrive, and the Las Vegas drive guide if you are coming up from Pacific time.
Early starts reward you in summer. A 6:09 am sunrise in mid June turns Sunrise Point at Bryce Canyon, 49.7 miles and about 70 minutes away, into a 4:45 am departure. Our Bryce Canyon sunrise guide covers the overlooks. Short winter days push the other way: plan hikes to finish by 4:00 pm in December and January, since the valley floor goes into shade before 5:00.
Dark comes fast after civil twilight ends, and the sky over the plateau rewards it. Our Cedar Breaks sunset and stargazing guide covers the high rim for the months its road stays clear of snow, and the Zion Overlook post has the coordinates for the pullout.
