The schedule from the first trunk to the last hayride
The village publishes the date on its events page, and the schedule comes from the organizer’s own flyer. Trunks open on Main Street at 4. Harvest Night starts at the church an hour later, so the two overlap from 5 to 6, and the hayrides carry kids between them from 4:30 until Harvest Night ends at 7. A prize goes to the best decorated trunk.

Bringing a trunk of your own means parking before Main Street closes at 3:45 pm. The flyer lists no sign-up and no fee, so ask the organizers through duckcreekvillage.com before you decorate. Our Trunk or Treat event page carries the same schedule.
Halloween weather at 8,400 feet drops fast after sunset
The village has no working weather station, so these numbers come from two neighbors that log the temperature every hour, read for every Halloween from 2014 to 2025. Panguitch Lake sits on a slope at 8,300 feet. Harris Flat sits in a meadow at 7,800 feet, where cold air settles after dark.
| Halloween at village height | Oct 31, 2014 to 2025 |
|---|---|
| 4 pm, trunks open (median) | About 53F |
| 7 pm, last hayride (median) | About 44F |
| 8 pm in the meadow (median) | 36F |
| Daytime high (average) | About 55F |
| Coldest Oct 31 low on record | Minus 1.5F at Harris Flat, 2019 |
The afternoon holds near 53F until about 5. The sun sets at 6:35 pm and twilight ends at 7:01, the same minute the last hayride finishes. By 7 both stations read about 44F, and the meadow keeps falling to 36F by 8 and near freezing by 9.

Median temperature by hour on October 31 at two stations near Duck Creek Village, 2014 to 2025. Data from USDA NRCS SNOTEL.
The medians hide a wide spread. The 7 pm reading at Panguitch Lake ran from 32F in 2018 to 53F in 2014. At Harris Flat, 8 pm fell below 40F in 8 of 12 years and reached freezing in 3. Plan the costumes around a cold year and peel layers off in a warm one. Our October weather post covers the whole month.
Driving up Highway 14 from Cedar City for Halloween weekend
| Cedar City to the inn | Details |
|---|---|
| Distance | 29.4 miles on Highway 14 |
| Drive time | About 45 minutes |
| Highest point | 9,905 feet, near the summit |
| Snow on the ground near the summit, Oct 31 | 5 of 15 years |
| Snow on the ground at 8,300 feet, Oct 31 | 0 of 12 years |
Highway 14 stays open all winter, and the climb out of Cedar Canyon carries the snow risk. Midway Valley, a station at 9,830 feet near the summit, had snow on the ground on Halloween in 2013, 2018, 2021, 2022 and 2024, from 1 to 8 inches. Panguitch Lake had bare ground on every Halloween in its record, so the village can look dry while the pass carries snow.
Check the road cameras on our road conditions page before you leave town. Pulling out of Cedar City by 2:45 pm puts you in the village before Main Street closes, and our Cedar City drive guide covers the climb mile by mile.
Daylight saving time ends at 2 am on Sunday, November 1. Sunday’s sunset comes at 5:34 pm, so a trip home that afternoon has an hour less light on the clock than Saturday did.
More to do around Duck Creek Village that weekend
Saturday morning leaves time for the rim. State Route 148 through Cedar Breaks National Monument stayed open in the park’s October 17 update, and it closes for the winter once snow arrives, mid-November on average. The visitor center has closed for the season, so bring water and snacks.
Cedar City’s Festival City Farmers Market runs Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm through October at 100 West University Boulevard. That fits a morning in town before the drive up.
Arriving Friday opens one more option. Kanab Spooktacular runs 5 to 8 pm on Friday, October 30, at Kanab Center, with a pirate theme, a trunk or treat and a haunted tunnel open until 10. Kanab sits 50 miles and about 70 minutes south of the inn, and the drive back climbs in the dark.

Book a Halloween weekend stay at the inn
Duck Creek Village Inn still has space for Halloween weekend. On October 20, both Friday, October 30, and Saturday, October 31, had open lodge rooms and cabins. Pick a room in the lodge or a cabin, and you come back to a warm room once the hayrides end instead of driving Highway 14 in the dark.
