Forest Haven runs on its own cancellation timeline: free until 30 days before check in, 50 percent until 7 days out, and no refund inside 7 days. It is the one stay here that does not follow the timeline above, so check the terms on that cabin’s page before you book it.

Snow, roads, and getting here in winter

Highway 14 is plowed and maintained year round. It closes only a handful of times a season, during and just after the biggest storms, and it usually reopens the same day. Even when Cedar Canyon does close, the detour by I-15, SR-20 and US-89 still gets you here, in about two hours instead of 45 minutes.

Check the forecast and the road cameras before you head up. Both live on this site and update through the day, so you can look at the pavement rather than guess at it.

In winter, come with the right vehicle. Four-wheel or all-wheel drive is highly recommended, and if you are driving a two-wheel-drive car you should have chains with you. SR-14 is a Class I traction segment, so when UDOT posts the traction law, snow-rated tires or chains stop being a suggestion.

What we cannot do is refund a stay because a storm kept you from getting here, and we would rather you know that now than read it on the day. A room held for you is a room nobody else could book. What we usually can do is move you: call early, while the forecast is still a forecast, and we will shift your dates if there is anywhere to shift them to.

Illness, emergencies, and trip insurance

We do not make exceptions to the timeline for illness, injury, or family emergencies.

We know how that reads. We say it plainly rather than leaving it vague because case by case turns into a different answer depending on who picks up the phone, and that is worse for everyone. One policy, applied the same way, every time.

This is exactly what trip insurance is for. A trip cancellation policy bought when you book will typically reimburse prepaid, non refundable lodging when illness or an emergency stops you from travelling, which is the cover our timeline cannot provide. It costs a fraction of the trip. If there is any chance your dates are fragile, buy it.

Group stays and buyouts book differently

Group bookings and private buyouts run on their own deposit and cancellation terms: 50 percent non refundable to reserve, the balance due 30 days before arrival, and non refundable inside 30 days. The timeline on this page covers individual rooms and cabins.
